From warehouses to homes
These characterful and individually designed mews houses were converted from a former dairy building, more recently used as warehouses. The Salt Group took great care to preserve the original fabric; saving the coach house doors, exposing floor joists, cleaning bricks and relaying cobbles.
This rawness contrasted against a crisp honed concrete floor, which gives the space something of an art- gallery feel.
was inserted a place where contemporary architectural detail where meets the charm of the old dairy.
Each house has been lovingly crafted with well-proportioned spaces, bespoke joinery and many thoughtful touches. An exposed steel beam is a nod to the building’s utilitarian past. The new extensions are wrapped in Blackened Ash cladding, with the contrast in material making explicit the junction between old and new. Arched openings have been lovingly inserted into the elevations, recreating the original design in reclaimed bricks saved from elsewhere in the build.
